Are you a showoff?
It took me *far* longer than I expected, but here it is: a global scoreboard!
The behavior should be straightforward enough to not require an explanation but one won't hurt:
- you play as usual
- when the game ends, you see a popup window asking you to submit your score, and you can:
enter your name and a password (more on this later) and automatically submit all future scores- do the same and request confirmation before submitting future scores
- choose to never be asked anymore (you can change this in the settings, if you change your mind)
- If you choose to submit, your score is sent to a.wordrush.eu where an artisanal, hand-crafted and organically grown API will embrace it and let you know how good it was compared to other scores
- If you choose not to submit, nothing happens and we're still friends
About the password: I decided to add one to avoid other players hijacking your favorite playername. Which is silly because, of course, they'd be hijacking it with a higher score - so I suppose it would be anticrime for all intents and purposes.
On the other hand, if I ever decide to setup something only for registered users (I don't know why I would do that, but I'm getting senile and I don't know what future me will think), a password will come in handy.
It's probably best if I also justify my choice to use a plaintext field (which means: please do not, really do not use a password you use for anything else): there's no email, and no easy way to recover your password if you lose it. So I figured that the stakes are low enough that it's just easier to let you type whatever password you want, maybe take a screenshot, and be done with it.
Needless to say, I'm prepared to be proven wrong, in which case I'll try to secure the password somehow, which I wouldn't like because I find the feeling of anonymity in Wordrush somewhat comforting.
Another thing worth mentioning is that I decided to make things as fair as possible - which means the high scores are distinct by game mode (of course) and by language to begin with. Furthermore, if Wordrush ever gets to have enough players, I'll introduce time segmentation as well (especially for the Daily mode), to avoid that one fluke from being the top score forever. Of course, if I do that, I'm also going to add a Hall of Fame to glorify that one fluke forever.
Finally, a heads up: I'm as committed to your privacy as humanely possible BUT I also want to try and improve Wordrush so, if you decide to submit your scores, you should be aware that I'm going to use the data to try and find sweet spots for difficulty and stuff like that. There's no personally identifiable information anywhere (Pythia results are not saved at all, to make sure of that) but you could still not trust me so I tried to make sure everything works just as well if you add a.wordrush.eu to your Ublock Origin shitlist.
If you feel the need to do so, though, I would appreciate if you could let me know why so I can fix it.
